A sucker for a great city park, today we headed out to Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park, followed by hopes of great Indian food in Little India. The park was sprawling and reminded me a bit of Golden Gate Park at home in SF. There was a ton to see, from secret gardens and varieties of flowers to exotic bird exhibits and playgrounds to a freakishly large lizard to a planetarium that resembled a mosque. Much of it was under construction, which allowed us to adventure around (using our guidebook, a map from the guidebook, a map we got at the Info Center and my google maps app…). It was warm, but pleasant.
Then we went to one of the most fascinating museums: the Islamic Arts Museum. The exhibits did a wonderful job depicting Islam from its devotional practices and rich history to its local and global influence through art, calligraphy, and design. We stopped in the restaurant for some delicious local juice concoctions and water.

Following a deep-dive into history, we decided to walk to Little India (also known as Brickfields). It’s a short walk, we thought. An opportunity to see more of the city, we said.

After walking along a highway, hiking through garbage, and running across a few lanes of traffic, we ended in Brickfields which got its name obviously from the tall, haphazard construction. By then, we were hot and glistening and super hungry. We couldn’t find any of the restaurants the guidebook recommended and ended up at a place called “ABC” which was under a train station and next to a parking lot full of scooters. Following a disappointing adventure we took the first cab back to our hotel for wine and pool time.
