It’s been a few days since we posted and, well, it’s because we’ve been doing a bit of relaxation.
We flew 20 minutes from George Town to the island of Langkawi. Thank goodness the flight was quick because the seats on Asia Air were tight. Our hotel picked us up and took us to a grocery store for $1.50 beers… no tax. We stocked up.

The Danna, an inclusive compound (IMO) pulls out all the stops for their visitors. We got arrival massages and a tour of the property before working out and settling into the bar for happy hour (where we’ll become favorites among the waiters). After martinis and bar food it was decided that our first day in paradise would be a pool day.
By the pool, Auntie attempted to teach me the art of doing nothing. Although I did read 2/3 of a book. Our hotel continued to pull out all the stops, bringing juices, complimentary sunglasses cleaning, etc. Being that I make little money and have multiple roommates, I felt out of place to be waited on.

Next to the hotel is a “patinaed” dock with building that had some recommended restaurants. So after a workout and happy hour we took the long walk to Tapaz for paella and other Spanish tapas. This island is not necessarily known for their Malaysian food, but is instead known for their international cuisines. The best part of Tapaz? They have a beer ATM. And yes, it is what it sounds like.

Our second full day was heading up via the Langkawi Skycab to the top of Mount Machinchang. The gondola ride, slightly terrifying as it was, got us to some of the most breathtaking views of the UNESCO geo park that is Langkawi. We also paid for and walked to the SkyBridge, which involved a hilly walk through the forest. Being that we live in a hilly city, this didn’t feel terrible, but for those that can’t handle it, there’s a short gondola-like ride to the bridge.
Once we hit safe ground again, we walked about 8-minutes along the road to the base of the trail for the Seven Wells waterfall. Hungry monkeys flanked us as we took over 700 steps to the top of the waterfalls before coming back down to the Wells halfway back. It’s a popular swimming area that wasn’t busy for our visit. We were dripping in sweat but didn’t have a bathing suit to cool off.
Lunch back at the base of the SkyBridge village area (which was gross) and then to the hotel where we laid out by the pool for happy hour until almost 6:30! For dinner we ate next door again, this time at a delicious (and empty) Turkish restaurant, Uskudars. Amazing mezze and lamb pide with Corona. Mmmmm.
