We started the day early (well early for us these last two weeks) and met our guide Tann at 8 am, for a private tour through the Angkor Wat temples. It’s hard to succinctly blog about a day with centuries of history and visual delights. Many of the temples began as Buddhist temples and, as kings were turned over, became Hindu temples. Therefore, some of the history and repair was not maintained. We climbed among broken buildings, monkeys, trees and annoying Instagram Influencers to get the best looks at these feats of manmade power. Moats created interesting treks, and were punctuated with purple lily pad flowers.
We broke midday for the best Cambodian restaurant, nestled among the temples. Amok is a local specialty and it’s light with turmeric and coconut milk, and it has quickly become a dish to attempt at home. At the end of the day, our tour company offered a coconut water at one of the stands, where we entertained ourselves with two of the mischievous children running around.
After a long day of walking, learning, and hot weather, we were back at the hotel, sharing delectable food before being back at the hotel for an evening swim, a massage, and a gin and tonic.
We are trying to figure out a budget on how to relocate to Cambodia while either working remotely or opening a juice stand.
We will be out the door at 4:45 am for the sunrise over Angkor Wat. Should be another remarkable day.
It’s hot here! 98 degrees and humid…
