The longest day we’ve ever had

As we sit here, in the hotel bar, at 7:00pm in Kuala Lumpur, I could have sworn today has been two. We flew into Singapore at 5:30, had our first cup of coffee, and took our second flight to Kuala Lumpur. Descending into the region, we were taken aback by the expansive greenery.

Our hotel, holy crap Auntie outdid himself. The RuMa Hotel and Residences, located near the Petronas Twin Towers, is draped in luxury. Toto, I am not in my small San Francisco shared flat anymore.

We cleaned up quickly and headed out to grab lunch. We’d already been up a number of hours, it was lunchtime right? Our stomachs said so. Surprisingly there wasn’t a lot open, so we ended up sitting with the locals at a place called NZ (total was $6.50. DEFINITELY not in SF). I had to try a coconut juice, and we blindly ordered a few things, with only a few translatable words.

Finished lunch, we were ready to go nap, it must be mid afternoon, right? It was 11:00am.

So, we found the Petronas Towers and one of the urban parks to wander through. Oh, and found a Chili’s. I’m curious about the menu, Auntie could care less.

We went our separate ways for a bit, I off to the gym, Auntie to the pool, and finally joined up in time to watch (what HAS TO BE) the number one Instagram Influencer complete a photo shoot (she must be a top influencer because she spent 30 minutes taking photos…).

Keeping awake, we ate an early bird special at a food court that resembles the local hawker street markets.

Let me take a step back here. When looking through websites and guidebooks about Malaysia tourism, the number one theme is around food. I’ll be exercising here, but only to make room for more food.

So, dinner, we ate some fish ball soup, chicken curry, and for dessert, a fried carrot cake. Which, was not cake at all. $7.50 total

Fish ball soup and chicken curry (with tofu)
Carrot cake

Aunties Top 3 Observations right off the bat: The mixed culture, slower pace than other parts of Asia, and the streets make no sense.

Patrick’s Top 3 Observations: The smell here is a mix of sweet and curry, there is a LOT of construction going on, and people were not joking about the caliber of food. Mmmmm
